As the world celebrates Marx’s 200th anniversary, few are paying attention to the humanist roots of his critique of capitalism. This is unfortunate, because Marx’s humanism not only grounds his entire perspective on society, from the 1844 MANUSCRIPTS to CAPITAL, but is also a major part of how he envisions a truly positive alternative to this brutal, exploitative, and alienating system.
