Harry Harootunian is a world-renowned historian of Japan, as well as a theorist of historiography and Marxism. He is the author of twelve books, including most recently, Marx after Marx: History and Time in the Expansion of Capitalism (2015) and Uneven Moments: Reflections on Japan’s ModernHistory (2019).He is Professor Emeritus of East Asian Studies, New York University, and Max Palevsky Professor of History and Civilizations, Emeritus, University of Chicago.
The lecture will be followed by a Wine Reception and Book Launch of Sharae Deckard and Rashmi Varma, eds. Marxism, Postcolonial Theory and the Future of Critique: Critical Engagements with Benita Parry(Routledge, 2018).
